Tuesday Tips: 4 Secrets to making men look fabulous in your photos Op. 1

Ever met a guy who didn’t want to have his picture taken?

(Awkward Silence)

It is no secret that  women are typically the instigators for booking photo sessions.  That being said, their men are still hugely important in their photographs!  Set these men up for success with these 4 simple tips.

For the record, Tarrin (my model below!), was fantastic to work with and didn’t give me a moments grief! I think having Jeanie, his lovely bride, made it easier than ever.

Secret #1: Let him look somewhere else:

Often, the most intimidating part of getting photos taken is looking straight into that big scary lens and trying to smile normally. Take the fear away by letting him look at his lover.

Bonus: Every girl loves to feel wanted, loved, and desired. This secret makes it happen!

Secret #2: Let him be himself.

Too much posing normally equals STIFFNESS. For 90% of my posing for males I say: “stand how you normally would if…”

For the photo below I said “Sit how you normally would if you two were watching a movie together.”

Cha-ching – look how relaxed he looks!

Secret #3: Keep his pose masculine.

I always go through 2 checkpoints when I pose a man.

First, is the actual pose masculine? (Feet shoulder width apart, strong shoulders, straight back. Avoid raised shoulders & crossed legs).

Second, does he look like the MAN in this photo? (Does he look the tallest? Does his posture suggest he is the protector?)

Ask yourself those two questions, and you are SET!

Secret #4: Keep him connected.

Who likes to feel totally vulnerable, standing totally alone when photographed? Not I. Give that guy something to hold onto or lean on! Holding hands with his lover is awesome, leaning into a wall works wonders – whatever you do – connect him with something to help him feel comfortable.

(Hint. This is also a great idea for women, too!)
