Tuesday Tips: 4 Unique Poses for Energetic Kids

“wow, your kid sure has a lot of energy!”

Ever photographed one of those delightful youngsters?  It’s a total delight if you’re not freaked out by a little enthusiasm!
Here are 4 poses to keep you cool, confident and in control when photographing energetic rascals.

#1: Birds Eye View

Keep the crop close, and play a game of simon says.  You’ll get  natural smirks, plus a unique, natural pose!  Win-Win!

#2: Grab your leg?

Why yes.  Energetic kids love to be moving right?  Well, I let fabulous Joren come and attack, squeeze, and maul my leg for this lovely shot.  Keep them moving and you’re guaranteed some solid smiles!

#3: Let them do what they normally aren’t allowed to do.

Throw grass at dads newly gelled hair? Jump on mommy’s back?  Throw rocks in my direction (protect that camera, photogs!)? Squeeze dads’ leg so hard that he falls down?  Why yes – that’s the perfect recipe for a particularly unique pose!

#4: Natural Parent Interaction:

One of my most favorite ways to run a shoot is to pose the parent, then say “Play with her – just like you would at home”  and let it unfold naturally.

Have you noticed that the most effective way to pose kids is to……not pose them?!  Working for that natural smile will be nothing but work if you’ve got them stiffly posed, and frozen.  If “Kids will be Kids”, then give them at shot at showing you the real Joy behind being a kid.
